Hip Replacement - (Arthroplasty)
A Total Hip Replacement is a common surgery for people with hip pain caused by degenerative joint disease or rheumatoid arthritis. The surgery is to restore motion of the joint and function to the muscles and ligaments. The top of the femoral bone (thigh bone) is cut off and a new round piece is inserted into the bone. This piece goes into the bone at least 4 inches. The cup on the pelvic bone is scraped out and a new cup is secured into the hip bone. You will stay in the hospital after surgery.
